Bowling Summer League Review 

 

Ryecroft had a massive 14 league teams in the summer of 2026, playing in the Alderley League and the Cheadle and Gatley league. Details of each teams' performance can be seen on the respective league website - see the Bowling page of this website for a link to the league tables.  Whilst our results have been mixed in 2026, we have had some success (the Cheadle and Gatley Evening team are moving up a division ) and some of our members were high up the averages for their division.  

 

The green will open for play again in March 2027.  New members can sign up for teams if they wish and we welcome enquiries about team play.   We have teams for men, ladies and mixed teams playing during the day and on some evenings.  The green is open for social play when there isn’t a match scheduled and the club diary will carry the details of all our home league fixtures and club organised social play.

In addition to the league matches, Crown Green Bowling is played socially by many of our members and is accessible to players with limited mobility.  It is also a sport that you can watch on our pleasant site, without joining a team.   You will be made very welcome when you visit our friendly local club.

👩 Ladies’ Teams

 

Our Ladies’ 1st Team had a particularly unlucky end to their campaign in Division 2. They finished on 8 points, but with three teams all ending on the same total, it came down to set difference to decide the final positions. Unfortunately, the margins went against us, leaving the team in a relegation spot. It’s a disappointing outcome, especially as 8 points would rarely be considered a relegation total, but that’s how competitive league tennis can be!

 

There was better news for our Ladies’ 2nd Team, who had a very respectable season in Division 6, finishing in 3rd place. Well done to everyone involved!

 

Our Ladies’ 3rd Team finished 6th in Division 8, gaining more valuable match experience and continuing to represent the club throughout the summer.

 

👨 Men’s Teams

 

It was a tougher season for our men’s sides, with three teams finishing in relegation positions.

 

Our Men’s 1st Team finished in the relegation places in Division 3, while the Men’s 3rd Team in Division 7 and Men’s 4th Team in Division 9 also faced relegation.

 

The Men’s 2nd Team finished 3rd from bottom in Division 6, in what was a challenging campaign for the team.

 

Although the results weren’t always what we’d hoped for, every match provided an opportunity to compete, improve and enjoy playing tennis for the club.

 

Looking Forward

 

While there have certainly been a few disappointments this season, there are positives to take away, and we can look forward to a fresh start next summer. League tennis is full of fine margins, and the Ladies’ 1st Team’s unfortunate finish is a perfect example of just how cruel those margins can be!
